Short answer

Furniture shipments to the UAE are delayed by late production, factory holidays, port congestion, route disruptions, missing customs documents and damage in transit. To plan for it, order long-lead items first, keep a time buffer before the handover date, avoid factory shutdown periods, consolidate shipments and prepare complete documents. When a shipment is held up, the options are another route or transport mode, an in-stock alternative for the most urgent pieces, splitting the delivery, or air freight for small items. DOMA looks for alternative routes and options so the project keeps moving.

Why shipments get delayed

  • Production. The factory starts late because drawings or samples were approved late, or a material is out of stock.
  • Holidays. Factories in China close for several weeks around Chinese New Year; many European factories close in August.
  • Ports and routes. Congestion, weather, or regional disruptions can stop a container or a truck for days or weeks.
  • Customs. A missing or inconsistent commercial invoice, packing list or certificate of origin holds goods at the border.
  • Damage. A damaged piece has to be repaired or remade.

Build a timeline that survives a delay

  1. Order the longest items first. See typical lead times to Dubai from Turkey, China and Europe.
  2. Keep a buffer. Plan for the furniture to arrive before the installation window, not on the last day.
  3. Check the holiday calendar of every factory and country on the route.
  4. Approve drawings and samples on time. Late approvals are the most common reason production starts late.
  5. Consolidate. One shipment per origin is easier to track and clear than many small ones.
  6. Prepare documents early. Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading or road consignment note, all consistent with each other.
  7. Insure the shipment and agree who checks the goods on arrival.

Tell everyone early

A delay announced a month ahead is a planning problem. A delay announced the day before is a crisis. Share the new date, the reason and the options as soon as the delay is known, so the designer, the contractor and the client can adjust together.

Customs in the UAE, briefly

Furniture imported into the UAE is generally subject to 5% customs duty on the CIF value and 5% import VAT. Clearance takes a few working days when the documents are complete. When you buy through a UAE supplier, the supplier imports, clears and delivers to site.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my furniture delivery to Dubai delayed?

The most common reasons are late production, factory holidays, port congestion or route disruptions, missing customs documents and damage in transit.

How can I avoid furniture shipping delays?

Order long-lead items first, keep a time buffer before installation, check factory holidays, approve drawings and samples on time, consolidate shipments and prepare complete documents.

What can be done if a furniture shipment is stuck?

Change the route or transport mode, fly small urgent items, choose an in-stock alternative, split the delivery or install in phases. DOMA looks for alternative routes and options for its clients.

Is air freight a good solution for delayed furniture?

It depends on the origin and the route. In urgent cases DOMA has delivered samples from one country to another within a day.

When do factories close for holidays?

Factories in China close for several weeks around Chinese New Year, and many European factories close in August. Check each factory's calendar when planning.
