Short answer

For outdoor furniture in the UAE, choose powder-coated aluminium or teak frames, UV-stabilised synthetic rope for weaves, quick-drying foam and solution-dyed outdoor fabrics for cushions. Prefer light colours, which stay cooler in the sun, and plan shade together with the furniture. Near the sea, use marine-grade stainless steel fixings. Avoid untreated steel, softwoods and indoor foam. Cover or store cushions in the hottest summer months.

What the UAE climate does to outdoor furniture

Outdoor furniture in Dubai and Abu Dhabi faces a harder life than almost anywhere else:

  • UV and sun. Strong sun all year fades fabrics, dries out timber and makes cheap plastics brittle.
  • Heat. Summer air temperatures pass 45 °C, and dark surfaces in direct sun get far hotter than the air.
  • Humidity and salt. On the coast, humid, salty air corrodes ordinary steel and fixings.
  • Sand and dust. Fine sand abrades finishes and works into weaves and cushions.

Materials that cope with all four last for years. Materials that cope with one or two fail within a season.

MaterialStrengths in the UAEWatch out for
Powder-coated aluminiumDoes not rust, light to move, keeps its shapeDark colours get hot in direct sun; choose light finishes
TeakNatural oils resist moisture; stays cool to the touch; ages to silver-greyNeeds cleaning and, if you want the honey colour, regular oiling
Synthetic rope and weaveSoft look, comfortable, dries quicklyMust be UV-stabilised; check the fibre specification
Stainless steelStrong and slimNear the sea use marine grade (316); lower grades can stain
Stone and ceramic topsHeat- and scratch-resistant, heavy enough for windHold heat in direct sun; very heavy to move
Outdoor fabricsSolution-dyed acrylic and similar fabrics resist fadingOrdinary upholstery fabric fades and grows mould
Cushion foamQuick-dry open-cell foam drains water and dries fastStandard foam holds water and breaks down

Colour and heat: keep it touchable

In the UAE sun, colour is a comfort decision, not only a style one. Light and natural finishes, such as sand, white, stone and natural teak, stay noticeably cooler than black or anthracite metal. For sun loungers and dining chairs that people touch with bare skin, choose light frames, timber armrests or cushions that cover the metal.

Plan shade together with the furniture

The same lounge set feels different under shade. Decide where the shade goes before choosing the furniture: a pergola, a fixed canopy or parasols. For parasols, check the wind rating and use bases heavy enough for gusts on terraces and rooftops. Shade also protects fabrics and timber, so the furniture lasts longer.

A care calendar for the UAE year

WhenWhat to do
OctoberSeason starts. Clean frames, wash cushion covers, check fixings and glides.
October to MayRinse off sand and salt every few weeks. Bring cushions in or cover them during dust storms.
SpringOil teak if you want to keep the honey colour, or leave it to turn silver-grey.
June to SeptemberStore cushions indoors and use breathable covers on frames, especially in direct sun.

Covers should be breathable and fitted. Plastic sheets trap humidity and heat and do more harm than good.

Hotels, restaurants and beach clubs

Commercial terraces need more than residential gardens. Choose stackable chairs for event spaces, sun loungers with adjustable backs and wheels for pool decks, and table bases heavy enough for wind. Order spare cushions and covers in the same fabric, so a damaged piece can be replaced the same day. See our restaurant furniture guide for timelines.

When to buy outdoor furniture in the UAE

Demand for outdoor furniture in the UAE peaks in October and November, when the outdoor season starts. In our search data for the UAE, searches for "outdoor furniture Dubai" in October and November run at about twice the yearly average and four to five times the July level. Order before the season, or choose in-stock collections: SNOC furniture in stock reaches Dubai from Istanbul in about two weeks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best outdoor furniture material for Dubai?

Powder-coated aluminium and teak are the most reliable frames in the UAE, combined with UV-stabilised rope, quick-drying foam and solution-dyed outdoor fabrics. Light colours stay cooler in the sun.

Does teak furniture survive the UAE summer?

Yes. Teak's natural oils protect it from heat and humidity. Left untreated it turns silver-grey; regular cleaning and oiling keep the honey colour.

Is aluminium outdoor furniture too hot in the sun?

Dark aluminium can get very hot in direct sun. Choose light finishes, add cushions or timber armrests, and place the furniture under shade.

Should outdoor furniture be covered in summer?

Yes, in the hottest months store cushions indoors and use breathable, fitted covers on frames. Avoid plastic sheets, which trap heat and humidity.

How quickly can I get outdoor furniture in Dubai?

SNOC outdoor furniture in stock reaches Dubai in about two weeks from Istanbul, including customs. Made-to-order items take longer and are confirmed in the quotation.

Do you deliver outdoor furniture to Abu Dhabi?

Yes. DOMA delivers and assembles outdoor furniture in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and all Emirates.
